About Chef Tummy
Chef Tummy worked for 20 years as an advisor to U.S. politicians, business leaders and as an investment manager. He then came to his senses and yielded to his true passion for cooking. In 2004, he leapt before he looked into a cooking adventure in Thailand . He studied the Thai language at the AUA School in Chiang Mai for four months and then embarked on a 6,002-mile motorcycle trip around Thailand to study traditional Thai cooking from the real experts—the Thai “Aunties” who make the best regional Thai food.
He wrote a book about the Thailand tasting trek entitled Tasting Thai Food: A Gourmand’s Trek into the Spicy Heart of Thailand that chronicles the countrywide journey and features Thai recipes learned while on the road. With his Thai cooking mentor nicknamed “Mister Aow” he operates a Thai food cooking school on the southern Thai island of Koh Phangan to share the recipes learned from the generous “Aunties” met while travelling.
His interests include classical Thai cooking, traditional French and Italian cooking and food and wine pairing.
He eats an inordinate amount of durian.

Thai Recipe and Video – Chicken Coconut Milk Soup with Galangal
I filmed a video on how to make a classic Thai soup called Chicken with Coconut Milk and Galangal. This traditional Thai soup combines chicken and and the silky taste of coconut milk with robust Thai chillies, pungent Thai galangal and the zesty taste of lime leaf for an easy-to- make velvety and perfumed delight. In this recipe, the cook must use his or her eyes and nose to help determine when it is time to move to the next step of cooking.
